James Rebanks – The Shepherd’s Life: I actually listened to this one in the car and while walking. It’s a memoir of the life of a hill shepherd in the Lake District of England, a clear-eyed view of a way of life more than 600 years in the making. Rebanks doesn’t sugar coat the farming life, the tensions of a multi-generational business but what he does do, is showcase the raw beauty of his family’s life and detail how each generation makes it their own. Grown up lessons? You can be yourself and be part of something more. It’s important to value all the parts of your life, and all the people in it, as distinct individuals.  More Lake District goodness on Rebanks’ Twitter and you can hear the man himself in Conversations with Richard Fidler on ABC Radio here.
